You open a website and see https:// with a lock symbol. Many people immediately think the website must be safe. Not necessarily.
What HTTPS Actually Means
HTTPS mainly means the connection between your browser and that website is encrypted. It helps prevent someone in between from easily reading the data being exchanged.
But HTTPS does not automatically prove that the company behind the website is genuine.

The website can still have a valid HTTPS certificate, and your browser may still show the lock symbol. But the domain is still amazon-refund-support.com, not amazon.com.
Think of HTTPS Like This
You are having a private conversation inside a locked room. The room may be secure, but you still need to check who you are talking to inside the room.
That is the difference. HTTPS protects the connection. The domain helps you identify the destination.
So Check Both
Before entering sensitive information, check HTTPS and the domain.
